The site now speaks Spanish, Italian, Chinese, and Arabic
Four new languages: Spanish, Italian, Chinese, and Arabic
NewThe site now exists in nine languages. Spanish is Latin American Spanish, Italian is Italian from Italy, Chinese is Simplified Chinese, and Arabic is a simple standard Arabic, understood from Morocco to Iraq. The texts, the stories, the tools, the web book, and the release notes are translated, and more than 160 illustrations have been redrawn with their text in each language. Everything stays casual, and nothing has been softened: the passages about religion or psychiatry say the same thing in every language.
Arabic is read from right to left
NewIn Arabic, paragraphs and titles are written from right to left, with the punctuation in the right place, and fonts made for Arabic writing. The layout stays the same as in the other languages. A review by an Arabic speaker will follow.
The language choice is visible as soon as you arrive
InterfaceRight at the top of the home page, where there is not yet a menu bar, you can now see the language flag, the account button, and the menu. Someone who arrives on the site and wants to read it in their language no longer needs to scroll down to find the flag. On mobile, the title moves just underneath so nothing overlaps.
The home page listening buttons stand out
DesignThe two headsets on the home page, the one on the cover and the one in the first section, now send out little waves until you launch them. It is so people notice that they can listen to the text with my voice instead of reading it. And when you land on the home page, the two bubbles, the headset one and the one that suggests logging in, no longer stack on the cover: they wait until you have scrolled down the page.
